If you're just starting out taking electric guitar lessons, whether traditionally with a teacher, by yourself with a book, or using one of the new online courses, there are a few simple things to keep in mind that will make your lessons more fun and profitable.
Make sure that you set a specific block of time each day to practice. Try 20 minutes per day at least 5 days a week for starters. If you can, make sure that you're practicing at the same time of day, say, when you come home from school or work. Making it a habit will go a long way in ensuring that electric guitar lessons are something that you keep up with, and don't simply stick in the corner and forget about.
The best thing to do is to find some kind of program that will motivate you to play every day. With traditional private lessons, you have assignments to complete every week from your teacher. It's the same with online electric guitar lessons. If you're enrolled in an online course, even though you will be allowed to go at your own pace, you will still have specific assignments to complete each week.
