There are many facets to quality guitar playing and there are many aspects of playing that every player must learn in order to truly develop their craft. Everything from the fundamentals of music theory, to learning different types of rhythms. However, nothing can supercharge your playing as much as the ability to lay down a great guitar solo when it counts. Many guitarists (most, in fact) really don't have their soloing chops as much as they should, or can, with a little effort. A great solo is usually built on one or more types of scales, the major scale, minor scale and pentatonic (five note) scale are all foundations for many, many different and unique types of guitar solos. It is important to realize, however, that a great solo doesn't simply consist of playing the notes of the scale up and down as fast as possible (although a lot of guitarists seem to use this approach). A great solo is about a great melody. Try humming your solos before you play them. Listen to great instrumentalists (saxophone players are probably the best) and try to figure out how they phrase their playing and their solos on the instrument. The more your learn about your instrument, the better the player you will become. Learn great guitar solo with online guitar lessons is a great resource and can help move your playing in the right directions by helping you learn different scales and techniques, such as slides, bends and vibrato, that will help you phrase your melodic lines and turn you into a truly world-class player!
