Clapton has chosen to use some of the best guitars for his album and live work, and his choices have inspired the popularization of specific styles of guitar. Earlier in his career, his favorite guitar was a 1960 Gibson Les Paul, and he helped spark Gibson to reissue the original Les Paul body style that had previously been replaced by the Gibson SG. His most famous guitar is a 1964 Gibson SG, which helped him achieve a distinctive tone that makes much of his guitar work sound as smooth as a woman’s voice. Today he most often uses Fender Stratocasters.
