Les Paul: “The Wizard of Waukesha,” Master of Guitar and Invention part 4

Though Paul recorded two relaxed country and jazz albums with Chet Atkins in 1976 and 1978 as well as a duet with DiMeola on the song “Spanish Eyes” in 1980, he has retreated from the public recording and performing scene. A 1991 four-CD compilation The Legend and the Legacy offer a disc of 34-unreleased tracks of Paul’s, such as an impressive electric guitar tribute to the Benny Goodman Sextet his “Cookin’.” Arthritis has slowed down the now 90 year-old Paul significantly, but he continues to play weekly impressive sets at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with the only two remaining functioning fingers on his left hand.
