Peavey, and all of their subsidiaries are responsible for making quality instruments, amps and a plethora of consumer electronics. Hartley Peavey
Hartley Peavey grew up in Mississippi in the 50s, a time and place that Hartley himself considers the birthplace of rock and roll. His father ran the local music store which allowed Hartley to work there as a young teenager aching to buy records. His immediate love for music drove him deeper into a career with it. Even his last two years of high school and into college he moved up in the music world, becoming a DJ. In 1957 Hartley decided he wanted to be a guitarist after attending a Bo Diddley concert in Laurel, not far from his home town. When he expressed want for an electric guitar, his father, however, did not want to give in right away on a teen's whim. He told Hartley that he would buy him an electric guitar only if he learned to play first and kept with it. An impatient teen, Hartley instead took a classic guitar and modified it to hold steel strings and when he couldn't afford a pickup, he built one. These were literally the first instruments that Hartley Peavey had created. But his father wouldn't allow him an amp without the same rules with the guitar. So between what was left of 1957 and the beginning of 1958, Hartley worked on his first amp. The lesson that Hartley learned from his father was that, with the exception of Fender, there was a serious lack of great guitars that didn't cost too much for the average joe. For his efforts, Hartley was a big fan of Fender and was now becoming determined to walk in his shoes as a luthier by making home made amps in his dad's basement while in school. When Hartley graduated from college in 65, he immediately began his company, Peavey Electronics. The original logo was something he scratched up while in school and those amps he created at home were rather crude, but it was all part of his beginning while he learned. And today, Peavey products have been marketed and constantly improving for over 35 years. Hartley's Honors
